Animal Husbandry Commissioner (DAHD, GoI) Visits ICAR–NIVEDI; Calls for Stronger Disease Control and Global Scientific Footprint

High-level interaction highlights policy priorities in epidemiology, vaccination strategy, and international collaboration

Bengaluru, April 1, 2026: Dr. Naveena B.M., Animal Husbandry Commissioner (AHC), Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, visited ICAR–National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (ICAR–NIVEDI), Bengaluru.

Welcoming the dignitary, Dr. Baldev R. Gulati, Director, ICAR–NIVEDI, highlighted the institute’s expanding role in livestock disease epidemiology, forecasting, and decision support systems for national programmes. He also appreciated the strong and continued collaboration with DAHD in advancing animal health initiatives.

During the interaction, Dr. Gulati emphasized key policy priorities, including revisiting culling strategies for endemic diseases and enhancing brucellosis vaccination from the current single round to three annual rounds to strengthen disease control outcomes.

Commending the institute’s contributions, Dr. Naveena B.M. lauded ICAR–NIVEDI’s leadership in advancing livestock health and emphasized the need to build a stronger international scientific presence. He acknowledged the institute’s significant technical support to DAHD programmes and reaffirmed continued institutional support, including under initiatives such as the Pandemic Fund.

Dr. Aruna Sharma, Joint Commissioner, who accompanied the AHC, appreciated the institute’s role in disease forecasting and early warning systems, highlighting its importance in proactive disease management.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. S.S. Patil, and concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Siju S.S.
