Trypanosomosis Overview
Trypanosomosis is a parasitic disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Trypanosoma. It affects both domestic and wild animals, including cattle, buffalo, horses, camels, dogs, and cats. Buffaloes are known to be carriers of the parasite.
Species Affected
- Domestic and wild carnivores and herbivores, including cattle, buffalo, horses, donkeys, camels, dogs, and cats.
- Buffaloes are known as carriers of the parasite.
Clinical Signs
- Fluctuating high fever that does not respond to antibiotics.
- Swollen lymph glands.
- Chronic emaciation and weakness.
- Loss of appetite and gradual loss of production.
Preventive Measures
- Affected animals should be treated with diaminazine compounds or chloride and sulphate salts of quinapyramine.
- Periodical spraying of insecticides in and around animal sheds to control flies.
