As part of Swachhta Pakhwada from 17th September to 02nd October 2024, following activities were carried out on 18.09.2024.
Swachhata Quizzes at Schools: Interactive competitions testing students' knowledge and awareness about cleanliness and sanitation
On the occasion of Swachhata Hi Seva-2024, ICAR-NIVEDI conducted an awareness program on Importance of Cleanliness and Hygiene in prevention of zoonotic diseases for the school children of PM Shree Government Higher Primary School, Kakolu, Begaluru North, Bengaluru on 18 September 2024. The program was attended by 60 children and 3 teachers of the school. During the initial interaction, although children were aware of hygiene and sanitation, they were not aware on how it is going to help them.
During the program children were made aware of the importance of cleanliness, personal hygiene and environmental hygiene in human health and wellbeing. The children were sensitized on important zoonotic diseases viz., Rabies, leptospirosis, brucellosis, KFD, JE, Bird flu their etiology, source of infection, transmission pathway, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and control.
Finally, children were educated on role of hygiene and sanitation in preventing and controlling such zoonotic diseases. I the final interactive session, it was found that, after the awareness program children were better aware and knowledged about the need for better sanitation and cleanliness of the environment as well as personal hygiene than before. To improve the sense and practice following the hand hygiene, the Dettol hand wash liquid was provided to the school children on behalf of ICAR-NIVEDI.
