Dr. Nagendra Nath Barman is a Professor at Department of Microbiology, College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Guwahati. He has a qualification of Ph D in Veterinary Microbiology, DAAD Fellow (Germany), Post Doct Training (UK). He has nearly 29 years of experience in teaching, research and extension since 1987, specialized in swine mucosal immunity and pig viral diseases. Guided 7 PhD and 34 MVSc students. He is specialized in Extensive research works done on Animal viruses particularly on pig viruses like foot-and- mouth disease virus, classical swine fever virus, rotavirus, circovirus, DPV, Fowl pox, PPR in goat. Training on animal cell culture under took at IVRI during 1986 provided strong basis for regular isolation of virus in cell culture. Pig immunology is a major field where research works are continuing. Exposure on advanced cellular immunology of pigs in Germany provided strong footage to understand immune mechanisms working at mucosal level. Works on gut immunity are published in high impact journals. Phase wise research activities are expanded to molecular based techniques like PCR, cloning and sequencing of infectious diseases of animals and birds. Advanced training on molecular based techniques received in Germany, UK and in India enriched concept enormously. Development of user friendly diagnosis and vaccines is current areas of research. He has 29 years of research experience in pig disease, avian diseases, goat diseases and cattle diseases. Handling a total of 4 ICAR projects and 6 DBT research projects. He is associated with disease diagnosis as well as vaccine production. He is awarded with Recipient of ICAR Junior Fellowship (1984-1987); CSIR Senior Fellowship ; German Academic Exchange Service Fellowship, German Govt (1991); German Academic Exchange Service Revisit Fellowship (2002); DBT Associateship (2010).
