The Classical Swine Fever (CSF) Control Programme (CSF-CP) is a Central Sector initiative under the Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH&DC) scheme, receiving 100% central assistance. The program aims to control Classical Swine Fever (CSF), a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, through a mass vaccination campaign. The strategy focuses on vaccinating all healthy, non-pregnant pigs over three months of age with the CSF vaccine, alongside a robust surveillance program to monitor and prevent outbreaks. Classical Swine Fever, caused by the CSF virus (CSFV), a member of the Flaviviridae family, spreads through direct contact, contaminated feed, and infected materials, posing a significant threat to pig farming and the pork industry. The disease results in high mortality, reduced productivity, and economic losses for farmers, making its control essential for sustainable pig farming.
Under CSF-CP, the government provides free vaccinations and supports diagnostic facilities to enhance early detection and containment. The program also aligns with global animal disease control strategies, ensuring improved biosecurity measures and disease surveillance at the national level. By systematically vaccinating pigs and strengthening veterinary infrastructure, CSF-CP aims to minimize outbreaks, support pig farmers, and boost the swine industry’s contribution to India's livestock sector.
