Anthrax in Animal
Anthrax is a disease caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis that can cause acute mortality in herbivores and is a zoonosis that spreads to humans.
How to Diagnose

Sudden death with oozing of unclotted blood from nostrils in cattle.

Prolapsed anus with oozing blood in cattle.

Frothy saliva with tympany and sudden death in goat.

Oozing of blood from nostrils in pig.

Prolapsed anus in pig.
Type of Samples
Blood smear and tissue from ear tips.
Laboratory Tests
- Direct microscopic examination.
- Serological test.
- PCR.

What will you do
- Plug nostrils, anus, and mouth with cotton.
- Dispose of the carcass by deep burial after spraying 10% formaldehyde, washing soda, or bleaching powder.
- Clean the surroundings with 10% formaldehyde.
- Send appropriate samples via Veterinary Doctor / Field Assistant to the nearest diagnostic laboratory / ADMaC Core Lab-I, Khanapara for confirmation.
- Maintain personal hygiene and keep farm surroundings clean.
- Arrange to vaccinate cattle, goats, and pigs with anthrax vaccine before the onset of monsoon.
